2 Village Heads Suspended in Karnal Land Fraud Case

Two village heads in Karnal district have been suspended after an investigation found that government land was wrongly listed as farmland on an official crop portal.

The district administration took action against the sarpanches of Shambli and Ampur villages after complaints about misuse of Panchayati land.

Officials said land meant for public use, including cremation grounds, school property, and grazing areas, was falsely shown as cultivable land on the Meri Fasal Mera Byora (MFMB) portal.

According to the inquiry, OTPs were allegedly provided to register this non-farming land under private names. Crops linked to these entries were later sold in grain markets to receive money under the Minimum Support Price (MSP) system.

The suspended sarpanches are Yudhvir from Ampur village and Kiranpal Kaur from Shambli village.

Deputy Commissioner Dr. Anand Kumar Sharma confirmed the suspensions and said all movable and immovable assets of the village panchayats must now be handed over to the majority-elected panch members.

He explained that several complaints were received against both sarpanches. The complaints accused them of using their official positions to register public land as private farmland for financial benefit.

After the investigation confirmed the allegations, the administration suspended both village heads.

The Deputy Commissioner said the inquiry will continue in a fair and transparent manner. He also warned that more action could be taken against anyone found involved in the fraud.
